Sizing depends on your electrical needs. A 10-14 kW generator is sufficient for essential equipment (refrigerator, lighting, basic heating). For a complete home including heat pump and water heater, opt for 20-24 kW. We perform a precise load calculation during our free evaluation to perfectly size your system.
Yes, it is fully automatic. As soon as a power outage is detected (less than 10 seconds), the generator starts and the automatic transfer panel switches the home power supply to the generator. When the grid returns, the system switches back to grid power and the generator stops after a cool-down period. You have no manual operation to perform, even if you are not home.
Generac generators run on natural gas or propane. Natural gas is recommended if you already have it at home (direct connection to the meter). Propane requires an outdoor tank (typically 500-1000 gallons). We evaluate the best option for your situation and coordinate installation with your gas supplier.
The cost varies depending on power and installation complexity. Budget between $8,000 and $12,000 for a 10-14 kW generator with automatic transfer panel and complete installation. For a 20-24 kW unit powering the entire home, budget between $12,000 and $18,000. We offer detailed estimates with no surprises and financing options.
Consumption depends on the load. A 20 kW generator consumes approximately 2-3 m³/hour of natural gas at full load, and 0.5-1 m³/hour at partial load (essential equipment only). In propane, count on 3-4 liters/hour at full load. A 500-gallon propane tank typically provides 5-7 days of continuous autonomy.
No, Generac generators are designed for quiet operation. The noise level varies between 60 and 70 dB at 7 meters, comparable to normal conversation or a central air conditioner. The sound-dampened enclosure and variable-speed engine significantly reduce noise. We strategically position the unit to minimize sound disturbances.
Generac recommends annual maintenance including: oil and filter change, spark plug inspection, cooling system inspection, battery test, and general inspection. Our annual maintenance contract includes these services plus a complete operational test. The generator also performs a weekly self-test to ensure its availability.
Installation in co-ownership requires authorization from the board of directors and compliance with building regulations (noise, aesthetics, location). For individual condos with private land, it is generally possible. For collective buildings, a common generator solution for common areas may be considered. We have experience with co-ownership projects and assist with your procedures.
